The morning started early. I got up at 4:30 to kind of wakeup. At 5 Cody got up, then at 5:30 he and I had breakfast. I got Brendan up at 5:45 and got him some cereal. I got the dressed, then got the boys dressed and we all crowded the bathroom sink to brush our teeth. We get out the door at 6 am as planned...how did that happen? Sueann is running late, and I'm worried as I thought the race started at 7:30. I grabbed my packet and chip, then Sueann, Tyler and Austin's packets and chips. I met them by the bathroom where we all got ready for the race, still thinking it started at 7:30. Said hey to Gerry, fellow Beachcomber and hard core racer (he's almost up to 1500 races) then found out it started at 9. We chit chatted with ladies behind us who said they wanted to start running these, we gave them the low down on Couch 2 5K and then listened to the instructions. We were off before we knew it and despite my warning to Sueann's kids about blowing out the gate, they did it anyway, then in the first mile I bypassed them and didn't see them again until the turn around, as this was an out and back from the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse (talk about a great marker to see for the finish!) I was cruising, I knew if I could maintain around the pace I was at I would make sub 30. I just kept going, I felt awesome! That last curve and away I went, picked it up a little for the end, and crossed the finish line. Official time 29:54!!!!! From here on out, it's by minutes, I can't wait to get sub 29!
Cody got a great medal for the kids race with the name of the race and a picture of the lighthouse on it.
Now, back to normal training schedule until the 18th when I'm going to shoot for 29:50, not really, I am just going to enjoy the last 3 races of the season before the heavier training starts!
Yeah for Cody!! Great job to you both!!
