Yesterday was my littlest man's birthday party. It was hot, but everyone had a great time. Not much to report on it, but Bren loved the cake Sueann and I made, it wasn't the one we plannedas we had a caketastrophy LOL so we improvised.
Today was the Hospice 5k, I've been fighting a very sore throat, cough, raspy voice for the last week. I did not feel good this morning and had 0 energy. I had already paid for this race, so I went. I talked to Sueann on the way there and when I pulled in Zik texted me. I then texted Steph and let her know where to find us. It was already hot and humid, almost 80 with humidity in the 90%+ range, everyone was sweating before we even started. It was a chipped race, but they went by gun time not using a start mat. It was a hard first 1/2 mile as it was very congested. A little over 800 people were running and we started on the road and had to move to the sidewalk as they hadn't closed a lane on the main road, that was tough! I wasn't paying attention to pace only how far in I was as I went in knowing I wouldn't PR as I was sick! Steph and I kept a good pace close to each other or next to each other until about mile 1 when Steph's shoe came untied. I ran on and made it to 1.75 miles before I had to take a walk break, I was really stressing my lungs out and was starting to cough. I walked, then started back up. I made it about another 1/2 mile before I needed to walk again. Steph caught up about 2.6 miles in and I stayed with her until 2.9, I told her to go for it, I was going to walk so I could sprint it in. I walked about .05 miles and then said forget it and ran, I came around the corner, finish line in site and people yelling and cheering, I sprinted the last .1 mile, how I did it I don't know, I came in on Steph's heels at 32:46. She did AWESOME for her first 5K. Zik found us at the finish and we waited on Sueann who came in right at 37 minutes. Everyone was dripping sweat, it was soooo hot! It sprinkled for about 2 mintues while we sat and chatted. It wasn't a bad run, if it hadn't have been so congested it would have been a good race.
I came in 20th in my age group out of over 30. I don't know how reliable that is considering they did go by gun time and we were pretty back there on the start, I think the times were about 45 seconds off. I'm waiting on the official posting, but I remember my time was 33 something with gun time. Garmin was 32:46 for 3.1. I have to get my cables and pull my Garmin, I felt like I was flying at the end. I also have no idea what my heart rate was at.
